Aliqa is an Inuk woman from Kangiqtugaapik in the Qikiqtaaluk region of Nunavut. Raised in Inuit Nunangat, she grew up immersed in Inuit culture, language, and traditions. Aliqa is part of the first generation following Inuit displacement due to colonization processes. Her upbringing was deeply influenced by Inuit arts, including literature, music, dance, films, carvings, and printing.
As an experienced facilitator and researcher, Aliqa has contributed to various projects for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous organizations. Her work includes the GALA project, researching Inuit literature from the 1960-1970s, and involvement with the Carleton University Indigenous Strategic Initiatives Committee. Aliqa is fluent in Inuktitut and English.
Through her lived experiences and family ties, Aliqa has developed a profound understanding, connection, and respect for Inuit, First Nations, and Métis cultures and knowledge.
